Little Miss Homo Sapien's Cave

Long After

Long after my loud, passionate voice had stopped echoing
Long after I had mouthed the words of extraordinary meaning
Long after my rhymes have ceased reasoning
They’ve already created a ripple, for posterity to be moved even for just a bit.

Long after I had vandalized public property with my art
Long after the paints and colors have faded and cracked
Long after I had been handcuffed for expressing myself through this act
The silent majority had already found their own niche on the map and made their own mark.

Long after I had given all that I could give
Long after I had dedicated my whole life to helping
Long after I had been misunderstood that I expected favors in exchange, to be returning
In the end I know the truth will eventually set their narrow minds free.

Long after I had questioned what authority claim to be the facts
Long after I had answered that I am merely exercising my right to speak up
Long after I had been accused of everything except only being a human
At the end of the day God knows me more than any one of them the real shams.

Long after my dreams have been reached and I had made it
Long after I had embraced with open arms my destiny
Long after I had been brought to many places by my lustful wandering
Nothing beats looking back at where I came from, and recalling the joys and pains while in the middle of the journey.

Long after I had loved with all of my soul and heart
Long after I had been hurt and cheated on that it drove me mad
Long after I had lost faith that I would be able again to trust
I know you are out there, just waiting for me to allow you to hold my hand.

Long after I had taken my final heave of vitality
Long after the world had stopped turning around its axis
Long after the universe had stopped expanding and
no one will even remember I had lived
Somewhere in history there was once like me who had done her part to the fullest of her being.

  1. I have subscribed to “In Other Words” to see how it progresses. I have that technology in my pocket, which I’m  not really proud about, and this gorgeous afternoon sitting in the sun…the poem popped out.
    Exquisite work. Total bliss.
I’m still on it. I think I have a problem with its rhythm, or is it just me?
I’ll have a close look again.
I got to admit, that’s the only poem I comment on, and the first little baby of yours.

Girl ? / Madam ?, let me once again, express my absolut admiration.

Ps. It definitely requires reading and re-reading and maybe little editing, i think, but… who am I ?

    • “If you are good even when no one is watching, that’s integrity.”

      Thank you, David.

    • I guess we all agree that in order for remembering to be a nice experience we have to make good memories.

      Thanks very much Ms Connetta.

  4. I’d like to one day be able to do this. Right now, I’m standing on the shore contemplating diving headfirst into the ocean. I’m tired of being a passive bystander in my own life. These words are encouraging. Maybe I won’t drown.

    • Standing on the shore is a good start. The ocean is an endless wellspring of inspiration. Water is life, so go ahead and jump into it. We all have only one shot at this, so by all means “drown” in it.
